So You Want To Know What Anime Should You Watch Based off Your Fav Bridgerton Season!

Dearest Gentle Reader,

With the new season just around the corner what better way to recap with some anime recs. Or maybe you came here loving anime but not knowing Bridgerton. Then use this list of animes to find which will be your favorite season.

Wait, your not quite feeling in the mood. Let me set the scene with you with some pop covers on the strings. Waltzing to Maroon5 or popping and locking to Cardi B on the viola, alright lets get into it.

Season 1: Simon and Daphne

Kamisama Kiss

I struggled with the Season quite a bit at first. How could I capture the essence of the "Fake Dating Trope" with two people who were both 'fated to be together' all the while being  polar opposites. It was too many contradictions. Then I remembered Nanami and Tomoe. Instantly the essence of Daphne and Simon was captured.

I'd dare to say that Tomoe in his cool, collected, flirty, but troubled demeanor is a perfect Duke. Nanami may not seem like a Daphne at first, but both girls, deep down are stubborn, clever, and willing to do what it takes to get by.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE. IMPOSSIBLE 

Season 2: Anthony and Kate

 Kono Oto Tomare!

I absolutely fucking adore Season 2 of Bridgerton. Some of my fondest memories of college are cracking open a white claw and screaming with my roommates while Anthony and Kate danced the fine line of 'I hate your fucking guts' and 'I want to kiss your face'. Energy like 

 With that it mind, I had to do it justice with this rec. It should be easy, right? Just pick an enemies to lovers series, there's plenty of those. But Kate and Anthony are so much more than just enemies there mirrors of each other. Two people who despite not getting along, are so similar in the crippling responsiblity they feel. Knowing eachother is like knowing oneself to them. There's a deep knowing in carrying the same cross as someone. Who can encapsulate this energy? 

Well It's the super slept on Anime Kono Oto Tomare! Kudo and Hozuki are my Anthony and Kate Sharma. Take a misunderstood boy with a heavy past and an uptight girl with a soft heart (and just as heavy of a past) and you've got one of the slowest burn enemies ->  lovers. This series is a master study on characters. And you also get to learn about a super cool instrument the Koto!  

Season 3: Penelope and Colin 

Secrets of The Silent Witch

(Season 1 Spoilers for Bridgerton)

Season 3 of Bridgeton also presented its own challenges for a rec. Another Impossible Dichotomy. I need a powerful titan who is a reserved social outcast. A Girl With Social Anxiety but also pop culture icon.

Where the hell was I gonna find power like that in an unlikely place? Then it hit me, The Secrets of the Silent Witch. Monica is a social outcast, she lives in a cabin on the fringes of the world, but she is one of the most infamous witches. Carrying the secret she is THE Silent Witch is most carry out a mission. This moving in the shadows and lying to your closests bonds is so Penelope. Yet despite having both fame and notoriety, Monice still renders herself a wallflower. She is the perfect Penelope.

Queen Charlotte

Fruit Baskets

This Season is so So Important to Me. Even though it's not a season its a stand alone spin off, I will die on the hill that it in the best out of the entire Bridgerton cinema-verse. The writing is beautiful and the characters are so human and cut you in a way you've never felt. For a special series and equally as special series: Fruit Baskets is Queen Charlotte

Queen Charlotte and Tohru are polar opposites. Where Tohru may greet you with a warm hug and perfectly timed pep talk, Charlotte would give a detached back pat and "sorrows, prayers". Despite being so different, their life circumstances and their relationships are so eerily similar. Both girls are strangers put in the home of another family which they must try to make their way into. Most importantly the relationship at the heart of their series is a girl with a broken boy with an incredibly dark secret. Each series has a pinnacle scene where the lead most face this truth and both shows make me sob.
